We are a popular 9-13 Middle School serving the community of the Saxon town of Wareham and surrounding villages in the beautiful Purbecks.
Our aim is to provide all of our pupils with a broad and balanced curriculum in an exciting, well resourced and above all a safe, stimulating environment. Our team of teachers is a well-balanced mix of primary and secondary practitioners supported by an excellent team of teaching assistants and other support staff.
The pupils in our school 'make good progress and achieve well' and'enjoy very good and trusting relationships with staff and along with their parents, hold the school in very high regard' (OFSTED 2005).
We are proud of the school's achievements, having recently received the Arts Council Artsmark Silver and the Healthy Schools awards to go alongside the Sportsmark and the FA Charter Standard School.
If you wish to find out more about Wareham Middle School, please contact the school. I will be happy to show you around.
I look forward to meeting with you soon.
On Thursday 24th September, Year 5 Dolphins participated in a cheerleading workshop with Emma from Dorset Dragons Allstar Cheerleaders. Pupils learned how to perform a variety of stunts including the ‘smush’ which involved a flyer being held up in the air. All agreed it was a fantastic workshop and we thank Emma for coming in to show us what cheerleading is about!
More information on the Dorset Dragons Allstar Cheerleaders.
To support Year 8 Citizenship teaching, pupils will be watching a presentation and participating in a workshop about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. This will be run by an outside agency (Solomon Associates) and will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday 17th June, 2009.
In literacy we have been studying the well known author Roald Dahl. We celebrated Roald Dahl Day by all dressing up and having Roald Dahl themed lessons, even the staff got involved!

There was a competition for the best costume. It was very hard for Mr Casey to decide the winners as there were a lot of fantastic costumes! He eventually decided that the winners were Hetty Axon as a witch, Jack Oxtoby as a Wonka Bar and Stephen
Woolley as Willy Wonka himself! They all received Roald Dahl Top Trumps as a prize! The rest of the day was spent concocting revolting rhymes and inventing Mr Wonka's next fantastic sweet. A big thank you to every parent for the obvious hard work making the costumes that made the day so much fun!

A big thank you to all parents who were able to come to the Maths Open Evening.

It was a very successful evening which prompted lots of discussion! All the feedback I had was positive, but if there was any way you think the evening could have been improved please let me know as I would like to run the event again next year. It was also felt by a number of parents that a further evening, maybe based around Key Stage 3 Maths, would be useful. I will look into this with Mr Hilder and let you all know!
For those of you that were not able to come I have included the document that was handed out to parents on the evening for you to download. I have also included another useful document produced by the DCSF. This is their guidance paper on calculation and goes into much more depth than I have done in the Parents' Handbook.

Artsmark is a national award scheme, managed by Arts Council England that recognises schools with a high level of provision in the arts. The scheme helps develop an understanding of the arts in the broadest sense.

Artsmark provides a benchmark for arts opportunities in schools so that young people have access to a wide range of experiences in art, dance, drama and music and this encourages schools to adopt a broad and balanced curriculum.
Gaining an Artsmark at any level shows that a school is committed to the wider development of young people. The scheme increases the status of the work of teachers within school and increases awareness of continuing professional development opportunities in the arts for all teachers.
By offering public recognition of commitment to the arts by the school and its teachers, Artsmark raises the profile of the school and its arts provision in the local community.
